Easthill Residential Home has been providing a caring environment for older deaf people for over 40 years.

Based in the town of Ryde on the Isle of Wight, Easthill offers a homely atmosphere and the highest quality residential care to older deaf people who would like to live as independently as possible within caring surroundings.

The home, which is run by Hampshire Deaf Association, offers up to 15 places for permanent care based around the particular needs of each resident.

Facilities

Easthill provides a safe, modern and comfortable living environment. It is fully accessible to the less mobile, with lift or stair-lift access to all floors.

Carefully converted to suit the needs of a Residential Home, this large Victorian house retains all its warmth and family atmosphere.

The thirteen spacious bedrooms and two bedroom flat are furnished and decorated to suit the personal needs of each resident. Each room has central heating, television and an emergency call button.

The residents’ lounge has a widescreen teletext television, video player and DVD with access to satellite TV. There is a hobbies room for all arts and crafts, with a computer for playing games or word processing. Residents also have access to a minicom.

The light, bright and airy dining room offers a high standard of food with a varied menu. The kitchen can cater for special diets.

Easthill has attractive gardens with lovely views and a delightful patio with comfortable seating.

Staff and Support

The staff at Easthill aim to provide the highest standards of care.

All staff are qualified in British Sign Language, with other forms of communication used in the home including Sign Supported English and the written word.

Regular visits to the home are made by Easthill’s GP, District Nurse, chiropodist, dentist and optician.

Staff actively support friendships within the home, and encourage residents’ friends and relations to visit at any time.

Services and Activities

There are a wide range of active and therapeutic activities available inside the home to residents, including gardening, hobbies room and a computer. A monthly church service is taken by a Chaplain for the Deaf.

The staff also organise day trips to shops, restaurants, the local swimming pool and library, and to Easthill’s own beach hut at Appelby Park.

Regular social events include barbeques and parties and there is an annual holiday for residents.

The town of Ryde is a bustling Victorian town, with shops and cafes dotted along the seafront.

Known as the gateway to the Isle of Wight, Ryde has excellent transport links within the Island as well as to Portsmouth and Southsea on the mainland.
